Between May 13 and October 13, 1917, three Portuguese children, Francisco, Jacinta, and Lucia, received apparitions of Our Lady at Cova da Iria, near Fatima, a city 110 miles north of Lisbon. Mary asked the children to pray the rosary for world peace, for the end of World War I, for sinners and for the conversion of Russia.

Mary gave the children three secrets. Since Francisco died in 1919 and Jacinta the following year, Lucia, who later became a Carmelite nun, revealed the first secret in 1927, concerning devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The second secret was a vision of hell.

Pope John Paul II directed the Holy See’s Secretary of State to reveal the third secret in 2000; it spoke of a ‘bishop in white’ who was shot by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows into him. Many people linked this to the assassination attempt against Pope John Paul II in St. Peter’s Square on May 13, 1981. The feast of Our Lady of Fatima was approved by the local bishop in 1930; it was added to the Church’s worldwide calendar in 2002. Sister Lucia died in 2005 at the age of 97.

  11. Dear Mary, please pray for my children to.find peace and not be made by the courts to go to their father’s, which they fear. Children should never be forced to go where they are afraid. Please help their father get help and let the children remain as is until he is healed and they are ready to go. Please also help provide for us and my mother in this hard financial time and bring peace to her physically and emotionally, as we all need help with the emotional as we deal with the sudden loss of my father and the stress of the fear for the kids.     • We catholics never pray to Mary, prayer is solely for God. We ask only her intecession. The same way as when you ask your pastor, relatives or friends to pray for you when you are up to a certain situation or challenges in your life. How much more when you ask Mary to pray for you knowing that she is the mother of God Jesus Christ. Jesus never refused her mother. Remember in the bible the wedding in Cana? Mary ask Jesus that they run out of wine, and he told the servants to do whatever Jesus tells them to do. Jesus even mentioned to Mary that it not time for him to reveal himself but he did not refuse her Mother. The same thing may happen when you ask Mary’s intercession. Try it for yourself and you will see the Goodness of the Lord. And I say ” Holy Mary mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death”. Amen. God bless. Henry

    • Yes Catholics believe that also. The Bible actually talks about this in other passages, continue looking.

      That claim is a regular and unfortunately successful tactic of Satan. He uses people who profess to be Christians to attack the Church he founded. Who needs enemies, when we have fellow believers to contend with.

      All of the usual comments and claims of non Catholic Christians can be refuted with a more thorough analysis of Sacred Scripture.

  35. Immaculate Heart of Mary, purify us. Foster faith, hope, charity globally. World peace seems so unachievable and abstract, but renewed efforts to unite the scattered bickering forces plaguing more than just hospitals, through persistent prayer, is essential. Reveal methods of prudent justice to those in power, and let the dignity of each human life reflect the Holy Face of Jesus, by setting aside conditional love for Divine Love. Dissolve debt and lessen unjust violence in places where shadows mask evil. Let personal and public integrity shine in the darkness. What we do when no one is there to see it matters much more than in places of adulation and audience approval. Let us do good, expecting nothing back. Let us donate anonymously to temper pride. Bring us sanctifying grace with every prayer, penance, sacrifice. Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us. You’ve already claimed us through Baptism so reawaken our mutual need for each other and for You. Holy Family of Nazareth, guide and guard us. Amen.

Mary of Nazareth, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, and Our Lady of Fatima, please obtain for me grace to attend Holy Mass, daily, and to pray the Rosary, daily, for the rest of my life. Please help me remain grafted into Jesus, into the Most Holy Sacraments, Confession and Eucharist, and into the Mysteries of His Life, through you and with Joseph. Continue to nurture in me a deep love for Holy Mass and the Rosary; enable me to share these heavenly treasures, that others may seek them too with awe and thanksgiving and be healed by the unfailing power of true love.
