About "The Secret Of The Rosary"

This work by St. Louis de Montfort is one of his most important writings. He describes the many benefits of the Rosary and how to say it with true devotion.

The book revolves around the views and power of the rosary and consists of short sections, one or two pages long, called Roses. Each Rose discusses a separate viewpoint about the Rosary and addresses a variety of audiences (e.g., priests versus lay people).

Instead of chapters, the book has 53 Roses or sections. Part One contains the First Rose to the Forty-Ninth Rose, and Part Two includes the Fiftieth Rose.

Although the book is highly readable and unassuming on the surface, it is based on a well structured “multi-perspective analysis” of the Rosary. The fifty-three sections are intricately connected and thought out clearly. Hence the term “secret” is quite becoming, for the book reveals these interconnections through the coherent theme. But the typical reader need not be concerned with the analyses. The flow of the text is natural, pure, and pious, appealing to laymen as well as priests. The book has been read by Catholics worldwide for over two centuries and continues to be a great spiritual resource.

About Saint Louis De Montfort

  • The author of The Secret of the Rosary and the originator of total consecration to Mary, St. Louis-Marie Grignion De Montfort (1673-1716) remains one of the greatest apostles of Marian devotion the world has ever known.
  • As a young priest, De Montfort dedicated himself to preaching to the people. This highly gifted orator's language was simple but full of divine love, much as you will find in True Devotion to Mary. De Montfort's whole life was marked by constant prayer, love for the poor and holy joy in humiliations and persecutions. De Montfort was canonized by Pius XII in 1947.
