A bronze statue of the Virgin Mary in the small parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Hobbs, New Mexico made famous for reportedly crying is once again miraculously weeping.

Three months ago, a statue of the Virgin Mary made headlines for crying miraculous tears resembling olive oil and smelling faintly of chrism – with no earthly explanation behind its origin. The statute wept three times and an investigation was launched into the occurrence to determine if it was miraculous in origin.

Devotees say the bronze Our Lady of Guadalupe statue was seen once again shedding tears for a fourth time in the early morning last Saturday. Many gathered to witness the statue crying, and the rosary was prayed in it’s presence.

The Catholic Diocese of Las Cruces was charged with the investigation, with Bishop Oscar Cantú directing diocese personnel to examine the statue and have the tears analyzed. Last week, Bishop Cantú gave an update on the investigation just a few days it wept for the fourth time.

“The statue is made of bronze. As the hollow interior was examined, nothing was found on the interior that could have created liquid. There were cobwebs in the hollow interior.”

According to Cantú, tests done on the tears collected from the statue discovered they are chemically identical to Sacred Chrism.

“The liquid samples collected from the statue were sent to a lab for chemical analysis. Two distinct methods of analysis indicate the same outcome: the liquid is olive oil with a scented mixture, chemically, to the Sacred Chrism.”

Cantú said the first phase of the investigation has ruled out natural causes, finding no evidence to suggest someone planted the tears on the statue. The next phase involves discerning if the cause is supernatural:

“If the cause of the phenomenon is supernatural, we must discern if it is from God or from the devil. I remind you that the Church believes in the existence of fallen angels, who at times try to trick us …. The discernment of whether it is a phenomenon from God or from the evil one is a longer process. The devil can sometimes imitate holy things in order to confuse us. So, we must be prudent and vigilant …. Thus, the investigation is not yet complete so to make a definitive pronouncement.”

  1. I believe miracles happen every day. In this world of technology, wouldn’t it be easy enough to place a camera to monitor access to this statue?

  2. CATHOLIC Mary is a cash cow for the Vatican also she steals attributes belonging only to Deity , she is an unbiblical fraud read the New Testament and find out who the biblical Mary really is!

    • Jemma, if you don’t love Our Mother Mary, I will pray that you do. Our Lord came into the world through Our Blessed Lady, Mary and so all graces flow through Her hands. She is the Mother of Our Lord after all, and the more that you love Her, the more you will be blessed!

    • Do you mean this New Testament?
      Luke 1:26-29
26 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth,
27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.
28 And he came to her and said, ” Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!”
29 But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be.
      Luke 1:41-42
41 And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the child leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit
42 and she exclaimed with a loud cry, ” Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! †
      Luke 1:46-48
46 And Mary said, ” My soul magnifies the Lord, †
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, †
48 for he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden.
      For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed;

    • She is biblical..read what the early church fathers said about her. Please show respect for the mother of our Savior Jesus Christ, chosen by God to be the mother of his only begotten son.

  3. No, you’re not correct. Mary is our great help, as she is closer to Jesus than any other human being. Jesus pays attention to his mother, and when we honor Mary, as ask her to pray for us, this pleases Jesus.

  4. Hail Mary full of grace, the lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.
Holy Mary mother of God pray for us sinners.
Now and at the hour of our death Amen.

  5. I firmly beleive. Of course Satan is out there trying to trick us into beleiving untruths. But, I firmly beleive that Mary is all over this earth, touching us, helping us to be better and get to heaven. She with her Son, is also tyring to keep the Father’s anger at bay. At Fatima and frequently, Mary revealed her sadness and said that Jesus is deeply offended. There is much to be sad about in this world. We must try to be more perfect and pray for poor sinners who don’t know better. Eternity is a long time.

  6. “… and the rosary was prayed in it’s presence.”
    To borrow from Strong Bad:

Ohhhhh… If you want it to be possessive,
    It’s just “I-T-S”.
But if it’s supposed to be a contraction,
    Then it’s “I-T-apostrophe-S”,
    Scalawag.

  7. Please faithfully pray your Rosary.

    Hail Holy Queen (Salve Regina)
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee to we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn, then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
    V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
    R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray. Almighty and everlasting God, Who by the working of the Holy Spirit didst prepare both body and soul of the glorious Virgin Mother, Mary, that she might deserve to be made a worthy dwelling for Thy Son, grant that we who rejoice in her memory, may, by her loving intercession, be delivered from present evils and from lasting death, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

  8. I believe she is really crying. Last Saturday (September 1) was First Saturday, a day devoted to the Blessed Mother. A day on which she asks us to pray, repent, and make reparations for the terrible sins of the world. From Our Lady of Fatima: During her July (1917) apparition at Fatima, Our Lady said to Lucia, “I shall come to ask… that on the First Saturday of every month, Communions of reparation be made in atonement for the sins of the world.” Although she made no further mention of this devotion at Fatima, on December 10, 1925, our Blessed Mother again appeared to Lucia at Pentevedra, Spain, where the seer had been sent to the Dorothean Sisters to learn to read and write. It was there Our Lady completed her request for the Five First Saturdays and gave her great promise.
Appearing with the Queen of Heaven in that apparition was the Infant Jesus, Who said to Lucia: “Have pity on the Heart of your Most Holy Mother. It is covered with thorns with which ungrateful men pierce it at every moment, and there is no one to remove them with an act of reparation.”

Our Lady then spoke: “See, my daughter, my Heart encircled by thorns with which ungrateful men pierce it at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. Do you, at least, strive to console me. Tell them that I promise to assist at the hour of death with the graces necessary for salvation all those who, in order to make reparation to me, on the First Saturday of five successive months, go to confession, receive Holy Communion, say five decades of the Rosary, and keep me company for a quarter of an hour, meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary.”

  9. A few years ago in Mumbai, India there was a statue of Jesus that was dripping water from its feet. People there thought it might be a miracle. They were drinking the water that came from the statue thinking that might heal their ailments. A skeptic by the name of Sanal Edamaruku investigated. He saw that water from a nearby washroom was making its way via capillary action to a nail that was holding up the statue. From there it was dripping in and then down through the feet. The people were drinking toilet water. Mr. Edamaruku’s explanation caused an outrage and he was charged with blasphemy (which carries a multiyear penalty in India). He escaped to Finland, where he lives to this day. Now just because that statue’s dripping wasn’t a miracle doesn’t mean the one in this story isn’t a miracle, but it should cause strong caution for those wanting to believe.

    • And I should think that is why the church is investigating this event with the mind set that even if this is proven to be of supernatural origins, it of God or of the devil. Those of us wanting to believe eagerly await but generally speaking, Our Lady weeping as always been an indication of her sorrow at souls being lost. Let us continue to pray for her intervention at the throne of our merciful Father.
