In an unusual video message, recorded on an iPhone by a Evangelical Episcopal Bishop, pastor Pope Francis knew in Argentina, the pope says all Christians share blame for their divisions, speaks of his “longing” for their unity and insists that God will bring the miracle of Christian unity to completion.

“Pray to the Lord that he will unite us all,” the pope tells a group of Pentecostals meeting in the United States. “Let’s move forward, we are brothers; let us give each other that spiritual embrace and allow the Lord to complete the work he has begun. Because this is a miracle; the miracle of unity has begun.”

  1. O God, you made us in your own image and redeemed us through Jesus your Son: Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish your purposes on earth; that, in your good time, all nations and races may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

  2. May the resounding message of John 17 pierce the heart of every Christian making us willing to yield to the Spirit of Truth and God’s most holy, and perfect will for HIS church. There is but one church… one kingdom… and it is made up of every tribe, kindred and tongue who acknowledge the Sovereign Lordship of our Savior Jesus Christ. Pentecostalism is not a denomination nor Protestant in nature. It is the result of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit’s gifts and power upon men and women who seek Him with their whole hearts as in the upper room (Acts of the Apostles). The Charismatic renewal within the Catholic church boasts more Charismatics/Pentecostals than any other group in the Body of Christ. To attach a negative attitude or assign guilt to all Pentecostals as “name it and claim it” money centered, carnal Christians who lack social concern or sacrificial lifestyles is far from realty. Ephesians speaks of the body as having many parts and how we must not say to the hand, foot, etc. “I have no need of you.” Christ, above all, teaches us to be disciples known for our love for one another that the world will see our love and UNITY and know that He comes from the Father. This is how the world will be converted. We cannot hold to divisiveness and be true to God. Ecumenism comes from Him. He has given us one faith, one body, one baptism. Do we dare defy His will by taking sides? I for one will not.
