“Who cares?” said Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby when asked about Anglicans converting to Catholicism:

In England and Wales, about one in ten Catholic priests are former Anglican vicars. When asked about Anglican clergy members converting to Catholicism, Justin Welby replied that he doesn’t pay it much attention:

“Who cares? I don’t mind about all that. Particularly if people go to Rome, which is such a source of inspiration.”

Welby called the conversion of a long time friend as “wonderful,”

“I had an email from a very old friend, an Anglican priest who has decided to go to Rome. I wrote back saying: how wonderful!”

The Archbishop of Canterbury said what’s important is that they are following Christ:

“What we need is for people to be disciples of Jesus Christ. I don’t really care whether it’s the Church of England. They are faithful disciples of Christ.”

Welby also remarked that he is a friend of the Holy Father:

“I go and see the Pope quite regularly, we talk about personal things.”
