The Lord calls whomever He chooses to be His servant, to be His spokesperson, to bring forth justice to the nations. He puts His Spirit upon those He calls. He grasps us by the hand and forms us and leads us as a covenant of the people, a light for the nations, to HEAL the blind and free the imprisoned. He is the Almighty and His prophetic servants are meek, not crying out, not shouting, not breaking a bruised reed, not quenching a smoldering wick, until justice is established on earth and the ends of the earth have received His teaching.

As Isaiah was called, so all followers of Jesus are called today. We are all called to live and proclaim the Gospel, to put into practice the Word of God: “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” We all share in the priestly, prophetic, and kingly office of Jesus. We are His holy body on earth.

We sing out, “The Lord is my light and my salvation.”

We are all MISSIONARY DISCIPLES, because Jesus is a missionary God, His Church is a missionary Church, and all the baptized have received the sacrament that constitutes us missionaries: our ears have been anointed to HEAR THE WORD OF GOD and our lips have been anointed to PROCLAIM IT. The Lord is with us; His Word does not return empty, it accomplishes His purposes.

Like Lazarus, we have been been raised from the death of sin. Like Mary we anoint the feet of Jesus with our love and praise. We know the poor are with us and we provide material resources in their service.

Yes, we are called by the Lord, we have a vocation to the APOSTOLATE, we are MISSIONARY DISCIPLES!

Frank W. Summers II, along with his wife Genie, founded Family Missions Company in 1997. Living in Abbeville, LA, they continue to be involved in Catholic missionary activity.
