Losing a baby is a tragedy no family should have to bear, and no family should have to wonder how they will be able to afford the funeral their child deserves. The sad reality is that thousands of babies die every year and do not receive a proper burial. Compassionate Burials for Indigent Babies is working to change that reality.

Jesus, however, called the children to himself and said, ‘Let the children come to me and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. – Luke 18:16

As Faithful Catholics, we are called by Christ to carry out our corporal works of mercy. They offer us a model for what we should do and how we should behave in tending to the needs of others, especially the indigent. Burying the dead is an especially important work of mercy, reinforcing our belief in the resurrection of the body.

If I saw one of my people who had died and been thrown behind the wall of Nineveh, I used to bury him. – Tobit 1:17

For the thousands of babies that die every year and don’t receive a proper burial, Compassionate Burials for Indigent Babies (CBIB) strives to fulfill the work of burying the dead by providing dignified burials for deceased, abandoned, or indigent babies.

Founded in 2007, Compassionate Burials for Indigent Babies is non-profit organization based in Louisiana. Since their founding, they have provided dignified burials for over 130 babies that families otherwise would not be able to afford.

Compassionate Burials for Indigent Babies receives continuous calls from the needy, burying babies at no cost on a monthly basis. To be able to provide more dignified burials for those who need it most, they must grow.

You can perform your Christ-called corporal work of mercy of burying the dead and help Compassionate Burials for Indigent Babies grow to provide more dignified burials for poor babies by making a charitable contribution here.

Compassionate Burials for Indigent Babies needs to raise $50,000 to be able to help multiple families in need bury the child they tragically lost. You can help reach that goal by donating on their GoFundMe page here. You can also learn more about CBIB on their website here, and watch below a video for their campaign.

For those wishing to donate via check instead of their GoFundMe page, checks can be made out to: CBIB P.O. Box 778 Lacombe, LA 70445
