Supporting Motherhood In The Poorest Areas

Pope Francis has said “A society without mothers would be an inhuman society, as mothers always know how to show tenderness, devotion and moral strength, even in the moments of greatest difficulty. Mothers often also transmit the deepest sense of religious practice. … It is a message that mothers who believe know how to transmit without much explanation; this arrives later, but the seed of faith is planted in those first precious moments. Without mothers … faith would lose a good part of its simple, profound warmth.”

The role of mothers in the life of Church and society as a whole cannot be overestimated. But in a world where the role of mothers is unappreciated or undermined, every single Catholic has the duty to help support mothers in every way possible.

But for many women around the world, there are challenges that threaten the sacred role of motherhood. Many mothers or soon-to-be-mothers have little to no access to proper medical care, nutrition, birthing centers, and post-natal care.

To help support poor and underprivileged mothers around the world, The Pontifical Mission Societies have created MISSIO, a new and innovative Catholic crowd-funding platform that allows you to directly help provide aid and care to mothers and expecting mothers.

MISSIO allows you to search through vital charity projects – ones providing for basic needs, education, safety, and others extending the Good News of the Gospel to remote areas.

Launched by Pope Francis himself, the MISSIO platform offers a direct connection to change-makers who work on the “front lines” making a difference for the poor and marginalized through direct, daily service.

Choose one of these missions of Pope Francis, and donate directly to them, knowing that 100% of your donation will go directly there. Share them on social media so others can support the projects also.

There are opportunities to help care for desperately poor expecting mothers, support a pregnancy and medical facility for indigenous peoples in Costa Rica, help the Sisters of Our Lady of Good Counsel complete a maternity clinic in Uganda, and more.

MISSIO is powered by The Pontifical Mission Societies, the Catholic Church’s official support organization for overseas missions since 1822, providing for a global network of people who are making a difference for communities in need around the globe.
