The Roman Ritual (Latin: Rituale Romanum) is one of the official ritual works of the Roman Rite of the Catholic Church. It contains all of the services which may be performed by a priest or deacon which are not contained within either the Missale Romanum or the Breviarium Romanum.

One particularly awesome blessing that can be found in the 1964 editions is a blessing for beer found under┬áthe section titled “Blessings of things designated for ordinary use”.

Let us give thanks to God for the gift of beer!

CHAPTER VIII: BLESSINGS OF THINGS DESIGNATED FOR ORDINARY — USE
5. BLESSING OF BEER

V. Adjutorium nostrum in nomine Domini.
R. Qui fecit caelum et terram.
V. Dominus vobiscum.
R. Et cum spiritu tuo.

Oremus.

Amen

In English

P: Our help is in the name of the Lord.
All: Who made heaven and earth.
P: The Lord be with you.
All: May He also be with you.

Let us pray.

Lord, bless this creature, beer, which by your kindness and power has been produced from kernels of grain, and let it be a healthful drink for mankind. Grant that whoever drinks it with thanksgiving to your holy name may find it a help in body and in soul; through Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

It is sprinkled with holy water.

    • Wow Nancy that’s really cleaver. You feel better now. Too bad we don’t know all the terrible things you’ve done in your life so we could all make fun of you. Go crawl back under your rock.

    • Gotta love the Troll that comes in, drops a bomb and then is too coward to come back and defend said post.

But I agree with the other posters, Priests are human, they have sin and need to be forgiven just as we lay people do. I am sure Nancy Morris is without sin and lives in a glass house. May God bless you Nancy Morris.

    • No, it’s after the other 9,999 out of 10,000 pray for YOUR soul! All of the other pedophiles out there in EVERY profession on this planet don’t perform this blessing before OR after they molest a child! (Answering the friend who wasn’t dumb enough to think this was a clever question) …

  1. If a teacher molest a child, do you stop sending them to school and bash the public school system? Not sure where in the bible or any church teaching it says it ok to hurt anyone let alone a child. We are all broken people and sinner, unfortunately priest are people too. That is where the grace of Jesuas come in.

  2. Deliberately sinning and doing so over and over again is not where the grace of Jesus comes in. He teaches to go and “sin no more”.

  3. How did such a joyful blessing of one of life’s great pleasures degenerate so quickly? Steven, it might be better not to feed the trolls–advice I am terrible at heeding myself, because they never, ever, know what they are talking about. You are an admirable defender; you should go grab a beer and pray for their poor shriveled souls.

  4. There ought to be a moderator to remove posts like the one above, especially when they are waaay off topic right off the bat.

  5. The funny thing is, I’ll bet that the blessed beer tastes better, is healthier for your body and has an entirely different “spirit” about it!
