In a soon to be released interview, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI said that “there is only one pope, and his name is Francis.”

The quote comes from a soon to be released interview with Benedict XVI for a weekly edition of the Milan, Italy newspaper Corriere della sera.

In the interview, the pope emeritus said that “the unity of the Church has been in danger for centuries,” but “the church is united and must remain” because it’s unity has “always stronger than internal struggles and wars.”

In his interview, he also spoke on his former office, saying “there is only pope, and his name is Francis,” and he reaffirmed “loyal and affectionate relations with Francis, despite the striking differences in personality, approach to doctrine and liturgy.”

The full content of the interview is expected to be released later this day.
