Following the deadliest mass shooting in American history, Pope Francis sent a message to those affected by this “senseless tragedy”.
The latest reports state that more than 50 people have died and up to 400 people have been injured, many in critical condition.
Pope Francis sent the message by telegram via Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin to Bishop Joseph Pepe of Las Vegas.
“Deeply saddened to learn of the shooting in Las Vegas, Pope Francis sends the assurance of his spiritual closeness to all those affected by this senseless tragedy. He commends the efforts of the police and emergency service personnel, and offers the promise of his prayers for the injured and for all who have died, entrusting them to the merciful love of Almighty God.”
The mass shooting took place near the Las Vegas strip at an open-air concert. The shooter, according to reports, fired from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino into the crowd below. Stephen Paddock, 64 years old of Mesquite, NV has been identified as the shooter and has been killed either by the police or his own hand.
