2291 The use of drugs inflicts very grave damage on human health and life. Their use, except on strictly therapeutic grounds, is a grave offense. Clandestine production of and trafficking in drugs are scandalous practices. They constitute direct co-operation in evil, since they encourage people to practices gravely contrary to the moral law.

  1. With alcohol those who cannot control their use are in the same danger of damage to health and life, as with any drug abuse and lack of respect for the potential damage of any drug. Self control is not always available, those who cannot control their alcohol consumption are in grave danger. However the correlation between addictive drugs that cut indiscriminately across the human demographic and alcohol might be a stretch.
    More importantly though the whole of the catechism is the point, with alcohol the clandestine production and trafficking is not the issue; however, since many trendy drugs are not specifically trafficked the cooperation and involvement with other damaging drugs is highly probable. That cooperation with the addictive destructive and escalating drug culture is an authentically evil association.
