The influence of the Bible on Western culture cannot possibly be overstated. It is the very book that the entirety of society was constructed. When few other books existed, the Bible was ubiquitous. Even those who were illiterate would be familiar and well versed in its contents.

Being so ingrained in the culture, it’s no wonder that so many of our common sayings come from the Bible itself. You would be surprised how many of the things you say have their roots in scripture. Here are some examples:

  1. By the Skin of Your Teeth – Job 19:20
    “My bones cling to my skin, and I have escaped by the skin of my teeth.”
  2. Can a Leopard Change His Spots? – Jeremiah 13:23
